Exhibition - Michael Amesbury

Back to the Roots

Impressed by artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol, Amesbury also enjoys integrateing photographic elements into his compositions. In contrast to Rauchberg and Warhol, however, they do not serve primarily as symbols or representational elements. He used them much more to create complex spatial contexts.

Due to the fact that the "objectness" is withdrawn from these elements, they are freed from easy decipherment and superficial "interpretation". What remains is an enormous tension between the non-representational "objects" and the powerful and skilful stroke of his brilliant colors.
